The group has been formed from local residents with the assistance of Leicestershire County Council Park Rangers under the County Council’s VIP Scheme (Volunteering, Internships & Placements Scheme) and is primarily targeted to assist with conservation work at both Coleorton Wood and New Lount Nature Reserve.
Aims of the Group
The Group over time hopes to significantly improve the wildlife value of the two conservation sites, to significantly improve their value to the local community and to future generations - whilst having fun and socialising with other groups and people along the way.
Volunteers can become involved in a range of practical tasks, such as pond clearing, tree planting, woodland management, ecological surveying, hedge laying, access improvement and wildflower meadow management. We also have volunteers assisting with administrative work, fund raising activities and organising special events. So whatever your skills, it is likely that the group can make good use of them.
We are also seeking ways to monitor the wildlife species on these two conservation sites, which will allow us to monitor the progress we are making in improving the wildlife value of the sites. Any individuals, or groups, that can assist us in this task would also be very welcome.

- To develop to historical heritage of both sites.
- To encourage a sense of community in the village through a programme of events, such as walks, lectures and other activities on the sites.
